持而盈之,
Chí ér yíng zhī,
Fill the bowl to the brim, it will spill.
不如其已;
Bù rú qí yǐ;
Better to stop in time.
揣而锐之,
Chuǎi ér ruì zhī,
Sharpen the blade too much, it will dull.
不可长保。
Bù kě cháng bǎo.
Continuous sharpness cannot be maintained.
金玉满堂,
Jīn yù mǎn táng,
Amass treasures, no one can keep them safe.
莫之能守;
Mò zhī néng shǒu;
Wealth and pride invite disaster.
富贵而骄,
Fù guì ér jiāo,
When success is achieved, withdraw quietly.
自遗其咎。
Zì yí qí jiù.
This is the natural way of Dao.
