信言不美，
|
True words are not beautiful, |
|
美言不信。
|
And beautiful words are not true. |
|
善者不辩，
|
Good people do not argue, |
|
辩者不善。
|
And those who argue are not good. |
|
知者不博，
|
The wise do not need vast knowledge, |
|
博者不知。
|
And those with vast knowledge may lack wisdom. |
|
圣人不积，
|
A sage does not hoard, |
|
既以为人己愈有，
|
The more he does for others, the more he gains, |
|
既以与人己愈多。
|
The more he gives, the wealthier he becomes. |
|
天之道，
|
The Dao of heaven benefits without harming; |
|
利而不害；
|
The Dao of the sage acts without contention. |
