|
民不畏威，
|
When people lose fear and respect, |
|
则大威至。
|
calamity will follow. |
|
无狎其所居，
|
Do not invade their homes, |
|
无厌其所生。
|
do not disrupt their work. |
|
夫唯不厌，
|
If you do not intrude, |
|
是以不厌。
|
they will not grow weary of you. |
|
是以圣人自知不自见；
|
Thus, the sage knows without showing himself; |
|
自爱不自贵。
|
respects himself without exalting himself. |
|
故去彼取此。
|
Therefore, he lets go of arrogance and embraces humility. |
