知,
Zhī,
To know one’s ignorance is wisdom,
不知,
bù zhī,
Not knowing this is a flaw.
上矣;
shàng yǐ;
The highest virtue is to realize this,
不知,
bù zhī,
Ignoring knowledge is harmful.
知,
zhī,
Understanding ignorance is key,
病也。
bìng yě.
Presuming to know is suffering.
圣人不病,
Shèngrén bù bìng,
The sage is free from suffering.
以其病病。
yǐ qí bìng bìng.
Because they see suffering in presumption.
夫唯病病,
Fū wéi bìng bìng,
Only by acknowledging this suffering,
是以不病。
shì yǐ bù bìng.
Can one be free from it.
