治人事天,
Zhì rén shì tiān,
In governing and serving the heavens,
莫若啬。
Mò ruò sè.
There is nothing like moderation.
夫为啬,
Fū wèi sè,
To be moderate,
是谓早服;
Shì wèi zǎo fú;
Embrace it early;
早服谓之重积德;
Zǎo fú wèi zhī zhòng jī dé;
Early embrace leads to great accumulation of Virtue;
重积德则无不克;
Zhòng jī dé zé wú bù kè;
With great Virtue, nothing is insurmountable;
无不克则莫知其极;
Wú bù kè zé mò zhī qí jí;
When nothing is insurmountable, limits are unknown;
莫知其极,
Mò zhī qí jí,
With no limits,
可以有国;
Kě yǐ yǒu guó;
One can lead a nation;
有国之母,
Yǒu guó zhī mǔ,
The root of leadership,
可以长久;
Kě yǐ cháng jiǔ;
Brings endurance;
是谓深根固柢,
Shì wèi shēn gēn gù dǐ;
This is having deep roots and a firm foundation,
长生久视之道。
Cháng shēng jiǔ shì zhī dào.
The path to long life and enduring vision.
