In governing and serving the heavens, |

莫若啬。

There is nothing like moderation. |

夫为啬，

To be moderate, |
|
是谓早服；
|
Embrace it early; |
|
早服谓之重积德；
|
Early embrace leads to great accumulation of Virtue; |
|
重积德则无不克；
|
With great Virtue, nothing is insurmountable; |
|
无不克则莫知其极；
|
When nothing is insurmountable, limits are unknown; |
|
莫知其极，
|
With no limits, |
|
可以有国；
|
One can lead a nation; |
|
有国之母，
|
The root of leadership, |
|
可以长久；
|
Brings endurance; |
|
是谓深根固柢，
|
This is having deep roots and a firm foundation, |
|
长生久视之道。
|
The path to long life and enduring vision. |
