使我介然有知，
|
If I have even a humble wisdom, |
|
行于大道，
|
I will walk on the broad road of Dao, |
|
唯施是畏。
|
Only fearing straying from it. |
|
大道甚夷，
|
The Dao is wide and plain, |
|
而人好径。
|
Yet people prefer shortcuts. |
|
朝甚除，
|
The court is adorned with luxury, |
|
田甚芜，
|
While the fields are overgrown, |
|
仓甚虚；
|
And the granaries are empty. |
|
服文采，
|
Some wear splendid clothes, |
|
带利剑，
|
Carry sharp swords, |
|
厌饮食，
|
Indulge in food and drink, |
|
财货有馀；
|
Amass wealth and treasures; |
|
是为盗夸。
|
They are shameless thieves. |
|
非道也哉！
|
This is not in accordance with Dao! |
