重为轻根,
Zhòng wéi qīng gēn,
The heavy is the root of the light.
静为躁君。
Jìng wéi zào jūn.
Stillness is the governor of unrest.
是以君子终日行不离辎重。
Shì yǐ jūnzǐ zhōngrì xíng bù lí zīzhòng.
Thus, the wise journey all day and do not leave their burdens.
虽有荣观,
Suī yǒu róng guān,
Amidst grandeur,
燕处超然。
Yàn chǔ chāorán.
They remain detached and serene.
奈何万乘之主,
Nài hé wàn shèng zhī zhǔ,
Why should a ruler of ten thousand chariots
而以身轻天下?
Ér yǐ shēn qīng tiānxià?
act frivolously in the world?
轻则失根,
Qīng zé shī gēn,
Lightness leads to losing one’s root,
躁则失君。
Zào zé shī jūn.
restlessness leads to losing one’s control.
