Speak sparingly; it is natural. |

故飘风不终朝，
|
Whirlwinds do not last the whole morning, |
|
骤雨不终日。
|
Nor do heavy rains last the entire day. |
|
孰为此者？
|
Who causes these? |
|
天地。
|
Heaven and Earth. |
|
天地尚不能久，
|
Even Heaven and Earth cannot sustain them long; |
|
而况于人乎？
|
How much less can humans? |
|
故从事于道者，
|
Those aligned with the Dao |
|
同于道；
|
Are one with the Dao; |
|
德者，
|
Those aligned with virtue |
|
同于德；
|
Are one with virtue; |
|
失者，
|
Those aligned with loss |
|
同于失。
|
Are one with loss. |
|
同于道者，
|
To be one with the Dao, |
|
道亦乐得之；
|
The Dao welcomes you; |
|
同于德者，
|
To be one with virtue, |
|
德亦乐得之；
|
Virtue embraces you; |
|
于失者，
|
To be one with loss, |
|
失亦乐得之。
|
Loss accepts you. |
|
信不足焉，
|
Lack of trust |
|
有不信焉。
|
Begets distrust. |
