But it is the empty space there |

有车之用。

That makes the wheel functional. |

埏埴以为器，
|
Shape clay into a vessel, |
|
当其无，
|
But it is the empty space within |
|
有器之用。
|
That makes the pot useful. |
|
凿户牖以为室，
|
Cut out doors and windows for a room, |
|
当其无，
|
But it is the empty spaces |
|
有室之用。
|
That make the room livable. |
|
故有之以为利，
|
Therefore, presence gives advantages, |
|
无之以为用。
|
But absence creates utility. |
